Mitigation of Barite Precipitation
Petroneer is currently developing a novel nano-based membrane for selective adsorption of sulphate from seawater prior to waterflooding operations. Barite precipitation is a major technical and economic challenge in many oil and gas wells across the globe. Current mitigation techniques are ineffective, expensive, and time-consuming. This promising membrane-based adsorption technology will selectively adsorb sulphate ions from seawater, reducing barite precipitation significantly.
Large-scale Production of Smart Water
Petroneer has also developed a technology to produce smart water from oilfield produced water and seawater using ceramic filters. This technology is cheap, effective, and scalable. Smart water flooding or Low Salinity Water Injection is a green EOR technique that improves oil recovery through wettability alteration.
Oil-Well Biocement
Petroneer is currently working with researchers at KNUST and CSIR-BRRI to develop a nano-based green Biocement from local Ghanaian clay and agricultural waste, that can supplement up to 60% of Portland cement in oil-well cement slurries, saving more than 30% of CO2 emission.
